Potential Capstone Project Ideas

After viewing some capstone projects from previous cohorts, I’ve learned a little about what will be expected from this CS Online program. Here are a few ideas that I can think of on the spot. These don’t necessarily reflect anything that I will end up doing.

IoT home lighting and blind opener/closer with Raspberry Pi.

-This project would make use of the IoT via Raspberry Pi. It would entail linking the device to a light switch and shutter switch to give the user control over options.

Past moon cycles with augmented reality.

-This device would allow people to use a VR headset and look at past moon cycles based on location.

Remote health monitoring system for diabetic sugar blood levels.

-This device would help families of diabetics to keep track of their loved ones’ sugar levels to make sure that they don’t drop too much or spike to high.

Internship and Potential Graduate Program Interests

I’m particularly interested in software and or data related internship opportunities. However, I prefer putting more preference on internship opportunities related to software development. As an undergraduate, it’s in my best interest to gain experience before entering the job market so I plan on utilizing the tools that my school has set forth for me to potentially land an internship.

I have given some thought about whether I’d like to enter a graduate program. I think that if I decide to pursue a masters, it will entail a more rigorous and detail-oriented career within CS. In my opinion, I would be in my best interest to take a break and decompress after graduation. This way I’d be able to work in my field and gain some experience. I believe that periods of decompression from scholarly work are necessary to rejuvenate my interest. I may also find that I’m satisfied with my career options after graduation and will not need to pursue a degree any further. On the other hand, I might feel that I’m ready to continue my education. I think it’s a little early to tell since this program has just started. I’m excited to see what the next few years have in store for me.
